Born in Onitsha in 1961 into a trading family, he sold what he could at the school gate before he was ten, chaired a bank before he was thirty-five, and governed Anambra for eight years without borrowing against it.

    Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress

    After leaving the ADC in May, he is ratified unopposed as the NDC’s presidential candidate with Rabiu Kwankwaso as running mate. The election is set for 16 January 2027.

  2. 2025

    Leaves the Labour Party

    He pledges to serve a single term if elected and, after a brief spell in the opposition coalition, formally leaves the Labour Party at Nike Lake in Enugu on the last day of the year.

  3. 25 February 2023

    6.1 million votes, Lagos, the capital and ten more states

    A party that had never won a state takes Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory and ten more states. INEC places him third with 6,101,533 votes.
